What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2018 Ford Transit Van?
The NHTSA has issued 51 recalls affecting the 2018 Ford Transit Van covering components including driveshafts, seats, electrical modules, and airbags. Major issues include driveshaft/flexible coupling failures that can cause loss of drive power, multiple seat and foldaway-seat locking defects that can increase occupant injury risk, electrical tow-module corrosion that can cause shorts or seatbelt pretensioner deployment, and an incorrectly packaged side curtain air bag that may not deploy properly. All listed recalls and summaries below are sourced from NHTSA records; Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg can confirm whether any specific recall applies to your VIN and will perform manufacturer recall work at no charge.
How do I check if my 2018 Ford Transit Van has an open recall?
You can check recall status by entering your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring your VIN to Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg and we will check free of charge. If you prefer dealer assistance, call or visit our service department and we will look up any open recalls and advise next steps; we can also help you schedule service online. Checking VIN status is quick, authoritative (NHTSA), and recommended before long trips or resale.
How much does a 2018 Ford Transit Van recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs for covered safety defects are performed free of charge at certified dealers, including Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg. We also offer service financing so you can get urgent repairs done now and pay later if additional non‑recall work is recommended.
Can I get my 2018 Ford Transit Van recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs should be completed by a certified franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts, manufacturer procedures, and warranty compliance—Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg is a factory-authorized Ford dealer and is the recommended choice. Independent shops may perform some repairs, but only a franchised dealer can guarantee recall remedy parts, factory diagnostic tools, and direct manufacturer support—this is critical for safety recalls like driveshaft coupling and air bag re-orientation. If you want safe, documented, free repair and proper recall closure with NHTSA record updates, please schedule service with Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg.
How long does a 2018 Ford Transit Van recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall: simple inspections or software updates may take under an hour while parts replacements (driveshaft sections, axle shafts, or seat hardware) can take several hours to a day. When you bring your vehicle to Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg we provide an estimated turnaround time based on the specific recall and parts availability; interim fixes (where applicable) will be done promptly to keep you safe. Use our online scheduler to pick a convenient time and we’ll confirm arrival time and expected duration when we inspect your VIN.
Does an open recall affect my 2018 Ford Transit Van's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved safety recall can negatively impact trade-in value and buyer confidence because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA records before purchase. Having recalls completed at a factory dealer like Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg protects resale value and provides documented proof of corrective action to potential buyers or trade-in appraisers—start a free check and then visit our trade-in team. We can quickly verify and complete recall repairs so you won’t lose value or risk being turned down by inspectors or insurers.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2018 Ford Transit Van recall?
Open safety recalls can lead to inspection issues in some states if the recall affects required safety systems (brakes, airbags, or seat belts); it’s best to clear safety recalls before inspection time. Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg will verify NHTSA recall status and perform required repairs free of charge to ensure your vehicle meets inspection and safety standards in Brownsburg, IN and surrounding communities. Defect

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Transit vehicles. This recall includes all full-size Transit vehicles previously recalled under 17V-408 except ones that received mechanical universal joint (u-joint) as a remedy and any 156 or 178" wheelbase Chassis Cab and Cut-Away bodies models. The flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft may prematurely fail.

Consequence

If the coupling fails, the vehicle will not be able to move under its own power and the disconnected driveshaft may impact and damage the brake and fuel lines. Additionally, the separated driveshaft may allow the vehicle to roll if the vehicle is exited when the transmission is in 'Park' but the parking brake is not applied. These scenarios may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
