8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid?
The NHTSA has four recalls in the retrieved data related to charging-cord electrical issues and a transmission/key removal issue affecting the Ford Fusion family and associated hybrid/energi models. Details include three electrical recalls (related to 120V convenience charge cords manufactured without thermistors which can overheat and increase fire risk; Ford recall number 18S24) and one transmission recall (where the key may be removed while the transmission is not in Park, creating a rollaway risk; Ford recall number 14C11). These entries were sourced from NHTSA records; VIN verification at a dealer confirms whether your specific 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid is affected.
How do I check if my 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid has an open recall?
You can check for open recalls by providing your VIN to NHTSA.gov or by bringing your vehicle to a dealer for a free VIN lookup. At Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg our factory-certified technicians will run your VIN at no charge and confirm any open recalls from NHTSA records, then explain required repairs and timing. If you prefer to act now, schedule service online and we will verify recalls and arrange any free recall repairs needed.
How much does a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are performed free of charge to the owner under the recall program. At Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg all recall repairs described in NHTSA records — such as replacement convenience charging cords (recall 18S24) or transmission/key interlock repairs (recall 14C11) — are completed using OEM parts and factory-trained technicians at no cost. If additional non-recall maintenance is identified, we offer service financing so you can get service now and pay later; ask our service advisors about available options and any current service specials.
Can I get my 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be performed by an authorized dealer to guarantee OEM parts and compliance with the manufacturer’s remedy instructions; a franchise dealer is the safest and recommended option. Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg is a factory-authorized Ford dealer with OEM diagnostic tools and factory-trained technicians who follow Ford’s official corrective procedures for NHTSA recalls; this ensures the repair meets manufacturer standards and preserves warranty and resale value. If you need the work now but cannot pay up front, our service financing options make it possible to address safety recalls promptly.
How long does a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid recall repair take?
Turnaround varies by recall scope but most recall repairs listed in NHTSA records (like replacing a charge cord or installing a revised interlock component) are typically completed in one service visit; exact time depends on parts availability and scheduling. At Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg we prioritize recall repairs, often completing them the same day or within a short period — our service team will provide an estimated time when you schedule service. If parts are required and not immediately available, we will contact you with a timeline and keep you informed; check current offers under service specials if you want combined maintenance while here.
Does an open recall affect my 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid's trade-in or resale value?
Unresolved recalls can negatively affect resale and trade-in value because buyers and dealers often check NHTSA records and may discount or refuse vehicles with open safety recalls. Having recalls completed at a franchise dealer like Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg using OEM parts documents that the remedy was performed correctly and protects resale value; we can also provide proof of recall completion for buyers or appraisals. To protect value, consider scheduling a free VIN recall check and remedy; we also offer trade appraisal assistance and a simple online option to get started via our trade-in page.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid recall?
Some recalls involve safety-critical systems that can affect inspection outcomes depending on state regulations; in some cases unresolved safety recalls may be considered during inspection or emissions checks. Because one of the recorded recalls affects the transmission/key removal interlock (risk of rollaway), leaving that unaddressed could create compliance or safety issues relevant to inspections — it's best to resolve recalls promptly at an authorized dealer. If you need immediate help, schedule service with Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg; we offer service financing so necessary work can be completed without delay.

Defect

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 120V Convenience charge cords that were supplied with and sold for use with 2013-2015 Ford C-Max Energi and Fusion Energi vehicles and 2012-2015 Ford Focus Electric vehicles. Cords with part numbers FM58-10B706-AA, FM58-10B706-AB, FM58-10B706-AC, FM58-10B706-AD, FM58-10B706-AE and FM58-10B706-AF were manufactured without thermistors, and during vehicle charging, increased resistance in the house's outlet or wiring can cause the cord to overheat and melt.

Consequence

An overheated cord can increase the risk of a fire.

Corrective Action

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current cord with a new 120V convenience cord with a thermistor, free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S24.
