8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2017 Ford Taurus?
The NHTSA records show 26 recall actions that affect the 2017 Ford Taurus or closely related Taurus model years and systems described by Ford. Key components involved include axle shafts/halfshafts, rear suspension toe links, fuel pump modules, fuel delivery modules/tanks, parking brake controls, steering systems, and transmission shifter assemblies. We summarize these items below and can verify your VIN and open campaigns when you schedule service at Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg.
How do I check if my 2017 Ford Taurus has an open recall?
You can check your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to our service center for a free dealer VIN recall check. Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg will run your VIN through Ford’s system and NHTSA records, confirm any open campaigns, and explain required repairs. If you prefer, call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for manufacturer notifications, or schedule appointment with our certified technicians for a free inspection.
How much does a 2017 Ford Taurus recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are performed free of charge to the customer when completed at an authorized Ford dealer. Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg uses OEM parts and factory-trained technicians to complete all recall repairs at no cost under the manufacturer program. We also offer service financing if you choose additional non-recall maintenance at the same time, and we run current service specials to lower out-of-pocket expenses.
Can I get my 2017 Ford Taurus recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts, warranty tracking, and manufacturer records are updated properly. Independent shops cannot perform manufacturer recall repairs that qualify for Ford-funded remedies—only franchise dealers like Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg can guarantee free manufacturer recall service and register the repair with Ford. For safety and documentation, bring your vehicle to our Brownsburg, IN service center and schedule service so the recall is closed correctly on your vehicle history.
How long does a 2017 Ford Taurus recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall: many inspections take under an hour while part replacements can take one to several hours; more complex repairs may require same-day or multi-day scheduling. Some campaigns (for example, fuel PEM or axle bracket replacements) may be delayed when parts are not yet available; our service team will provide accurate ETA and loaner/rental options where appropriate. To get the fastest service, schedule appointment with Bill Estes Ford and ask about current part availability and any applicable service specials.
Does an open recall affect my 2017 Ford Taurus's trade-in or resale value?
Yes—unresolved recalls can reduce trade-in offers and complicate private sales since some buyers and dealers verify NHTSA recall status before purchase. Having recalls completed at an authorized dealer documents that the vehicle is repaired to factory standards, protecting resale value and simplifying the appraisal process. Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg can complete the required recall repairs and provide documentation to protect your vehicle’s value; learn more about trade options at our trade-in appraisal page.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2017 Ford Taurus recall?
Some recalls affect safety systems that could cause a vehicle to fail state inspections or safety checks depending on local regulations. It’s best to resolve safety-related recalls—such as parking brake engagement, steering assist, or fuel leaks—promptly to avoid inspection or registration complications. Bring your vehicle to Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg to have open recalls verified and repaired for free so you remain compliant with Indiana inspection and registration requirements.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.

Consequence

Corrective Action

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners will receive an interim notification about the recall beginning November 30, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available.
