What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2016 Ford Transit Wagon?
The NHTSA has issued 25 recalls affecting the 2016 Ford Transit Wagon across components such as driveshafts, seating, adaptive equipment, electrical modules, air bags, seat belts, axles, fuel systems, doors, brakes and diesel fuel systems. These recalls include driveshaft flexible coupling and universal joint failures that can cause loss of drive or rollaway, foldaway seat latches that may not lock under load, wheelchair lift defects that can allow platforms to stop above floor height, and trailer tow module water intrusion that can corrode wiring. Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg tracks NHTSA updates and provides free recall repairs—call us or schedule service today so our factory-trained technicians can confirm and fix any open recalls.
How do I check if my 2016 Ford Transit Wagon has an open recall?
You can check your vehicle’s VIN against NHTSA records online or bring your van to our service department for a free VIN recall check. Can I get my 2016 Ford Transit Wagon recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs should be completed by an authorized franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts, manufacturer procedure compliance, and free warranty-covered service. Independent shops may be competent but cannot always obtain manufacturer-supplied remedy parts or warranty coverage for recall procedures—Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg is a certified Ford franchise that offers factory-trained technicians and official parts. How long does a 2016 Ford Transit Wagon recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall; many corrective actions take a few hours while more involved parts replacements may require a day or more. For example, interim flexible coupling replacements for driveshaft recalls are relatively quick, while final driveshaft assembly replacements or fuel system flushes can need more time; our advisors will give an estimated turnaround when you schedule appointment. We offer loaner options and courtesy amenities where available—ask our service team about timelines and drop-off conveniences when you call or book online.
Does an open recall affect my 2016 Ford Transit Wagon's trade-in or resale value?
Yes — unresolved recalls can lower trade-in offers and deter private buyers because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA history before purchase. Resolving recalls at an authorized dealer like Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg protects resale value and provides documented proof of completed manufacturer repairs that many buyers and lenders expect. Ready to protect value? Visit our trade appraisal page at sell-us-your-car-online.htm after your recall repair or schedule service now to clear any open items.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2016 Ford Transit Wagon recall?
State inspection rules vary, but safety-related recalls—such as brakes, airbags, seat belts, or fuel system issues—can affect inspection outcomes in some jurisdictions. Because several NHTSA recalls for the 2016 Ford Transit Wagon address braking, airbag deployment, seat belts and fuel systems, unresolved issues could impact a safety inspection or insurance claims. Defect

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Transit vehicles. This recall includes all full-size Transit vehicles previously recalled under 17V-408 except ones that received mechanical universal joint (u-joint) as a remedy and any 156 or 178" wheelbase Chassis Cab and Cut-Away bodies models. The flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft may prematurely fail.

Consequence

If the coupling fails, the vehicle will not be able to move under its own power and the disconnected driveshaft may impact and damage the brake and fuel lines. Additionally, the separated driveshaft may allow the vehicle to roll if the vehicle is exited when the transmission is in 'Park' but the parking brake is not applied. These scenarios may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Corrective Action

Ford will notify owners, and as an interim repair, dealers will replace the flexible coupling every 40,000 miles until the final remedy is available. The final remedy will consist of installation of a driveshaft front section equipped with a mechanical u-joint in place of the flexible coupling. These repairs will be made free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S38. Note: This recall supersedes recall number 17V-408.
